What is radon?

Radon comes from the radioactive breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water and gets into the air you breathe. You cannot smell, see or taste radon gas. It is estimated that 1 out of every 15 homes in the U.S. has elevated radon levels. According to the Surgeon General, radon is currently the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.

Is my home at risk for radon?

Every home, old or new, should be tested for radon. Radon levels vary even within neighborhoods. Radon typically moves up through cracks and other holes in the foundation or even through well water. If your home was tested prior to any structural changes, alterations, or changes in the heating, ventilation and HVAC system, these changes might affect current radon levels.

Any radon level at 4 pCi/L or higher is considered a dangerous level. Although, according to the EPA, even low levels of radon can pose a health risk.

How can I reduce the radon level in my home?

Bedrock Home Services is licensed and insured to install a radon mitigation system. We install a vent pipe system and fan which pulls radon gas from beneath the house and vents it to the outside. We will collect data to compare radon levels both before and after a radon mitigation system is installed to insure the system is functioning optimally.
